A short account of how a shirt travels from our front room to your wardrobe. Six dedicated presses; one hand on each cuff.
The method
Shirts arrive at the front room before they are anywhere else. They are sorted by cloth - poplin, twill, oxford, voile, linen - and by colour, against the morning light from the east-facing window. Collar stays are removed and bagged.
We launder in soft water at thirty degrees, with a mild Belgian soap. The wash is short. We rinse twice. Each shirt is then hung damp on a slim wood valet to relax for an hour.
The press is chosen for the cloth. A dedicated cotton press handles poplin and oxford; voile and fine linen go to the cool hand-iron at the second bench. The collar is pressed flat, then rolled by hand to set the line. Cuffs are squared. Plackets are creased single.
Stays are replaced. The shirt is hung on a slim wood hanger and sleeved in breathable cotton, tagged with a paper care-card - the service code, the room, the date.
By the cuff, by the placket.

Wash
Soft water, thirty degrees, mild Belgian soap. Twice rinsed; never spun harder than 600.

Press
Cotton press for poplin and oxford; cool hand-iron for voile and fine linen.

Collar
Pressed flat, then rolled by hand. Stays bagged and replaced.
No. 05
Cuff
Squared on the press. Mother-of-pearl buttons checked and tightened as needed.

Return
On a slim wood hanger, in unbleached cotton, with a paper care-card.
