By assessment
Typically five to ten days.No. 03 · Eveningwear
Silk, beading, and gowns of long memory.
The cool room. Press Room 03 is held at twenty degrees year-round; eveningwear is the only cloth that meets a valet here, never a press.
The method
Every piece is assessed in person, by appointment, before it is touched. We photograph the cloth, the lining, the beading and any prior repair. The dossier is opened that morning.
Silk crepe is steamed off the press, then rested on a wide brass-trimmed valet for an afternoon. Satin is addressed against a linen cloth. Beading is individually wrapped in tissue and pinned.
Tuxedo facings are silk; they will not forgive heat. The whole jacket is pressed cool, in passes, and the facings are addressed last, on a soft pad.
Returned on a wide wood valet, sleeved in unbleached cotton, with a paper dossier. Every stage is photographed and logged while the piece is in our care.
